Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Fine Art Print I buy from PDM the same as a Giclee Print?
The short answer is yes! While all Giclees are printed on inkjet printers, full size high resolution capture, custom color managed workflow, decades of color correction experience, hand picked inkset and paper combinations, and attention to detail in printing and finishing, provide our customers with an exceptional product.

How does PDM proof my art?
Our standard proof is 8" x 10", printed with the same inkset, on the same stock the finals will be printed on.

How many proofs do I see?
If you buy our Capture Package you will see 2 proofs. The first proof submit is the one you will mark with needed color corrections. The second proof, normally the final submit, will become the "printers proof". You will sign this proof indicating your approval of the color. We will keep this on file and use it to evaluate each group of your edition as they are printed. You will receive a duplicate of this proof. Without your signature on a proof, we cannot begin printing.

How long before I see a proof?
There are many production steps that take place prior to showing your first proof, not including sufficient print dry time. A first proof is generally ready to ship in 4-5 business days.

Can I talk to someone about my color or am I on my own?
We are here for you. We will show you your proofs and discuss the color corrections you have in mind. Please understand that some colors cannot be reproduced and lighting conditions greatly effect the color you see.

Why do I have to sign a release?
We ask you to sign a document giving us license to reproduce your artwork and stating exclusive ownership to protect PDM and to demonstrate our respect for copyrights and trademarks.

Why are you asking me about my media and pigments?
The large variety of media and pigments provide an unending challenge in reproduction. To increase our control over the color process, we are documenting the color response and reproduction problems encountered with various combinations. Your help is appreciated.

Do I need to order a minimum number of prints?
We would prefer a minimum of 5 prints per order, however the advantage of our system is the ability to order any quantity as needed, and we will print any number you require.

Is my print size too small or too large for PDM to print?
Any standard print size is fine, with prints available up to 60" in one direction. Please ask for our input on sizing issues.

Do you have standard papers and canvas?
Yes, we offer Somerset Velvet, Hahnemuhle Photo Rag, Epson Textured FAP, and Epson Ultra Smooth as well as Canvas and other Photo media. These are not the only media we can or will print on, these are the most requested by our artists. Feel free to ask us about other media.

How long will my prints last?
Estimated 80-100 years if the prints are treated as you would any other piece of fine art. Correct humidity, heat, and light conditions, proper handling, mounting, and framing, etc.

OK, I know what the Reproduction Package and my prints will cost. Are there any other charges?
Shipping is always an extra charge. Masked color corrections, special print handling such as Deckled edges, mounting, and matting. This is not a complete list but we will inform you of the possibility of an extra charge before proceeding. The cost of additional color corrections and proofs may be added to your invoice if we have followed your instructions and you have changed your mind. We are very serious about color.
