Art Reproduction

PDM has been reproducing original art utilizing our digital workflow since 1998. We understand the complex process of art reproduction.

Each step of our process is color managed. Our camera, computer screens, and printers all use custom ICC Profiles to ensure the greatest possible color accuracy.

Image Capture
To create the highest quality reproductions you need to start with the largest, clearest, full resolution image capture. That is why we use a Betterlight scan back mounted on a 4 x 5 view camera. Our captures contain more tone values between highlight and shadow, greater shadow detail, and images-free of noise and grain, than any other film or digital camera.

As an option to our Betterlight captures, we can reproduce your art from transparencies. Our 11,000dpi scanner is capable of outputting images at up to 2000% of their original size. We run profiles for many types and brands of transparency material to ensure the highest level of color reproduction in your final print.

Color Correction
Captured images are color corrected by our Color Specialists using a variety of software and proprietary processes. All color judgements are made under controlled lighting conditions...the same conditions our clients view their proofs under.

Printing
Fine Art and Photo prints are produced on our Epson 7600/9600's using 7 color UltraChrome inks and high quality Fine Art Papers, Canvas and Photo papers. The printing software we use in combination with PDM's custom ICC Profiles, allows us to print colors not available to users printing from Photoshop.

Color corrected images can be repurposed for Greeting Cards, Slides, Websites, POP, Posters, and Wallpaper.

Archiving
Each camera-captured image immediately has 2 archive copies saved to temporary hard drive locations. During the color correction and proofing stages additional copies are saved on our server and backup tapes. Finally, after final OK by the artist, each set of files is burned to 2 CD's and/or DVD's.

Customer Supplied Digital Files
Images created in various programs on your computer or prescanned images can also be printed. We recommend sending full size 300 dpi, RGB Tiff or EPS files. Remove extra channels. Provide high res PDF's for files that have important text elements. CMYK files, JPEG's or sharpened images will effect the final printed product. We suggest ordering a reduced proof of you image to see how our profiled color matches your monitor or desktop printer.

Building on our experience, we have created a production environment capable of providing our artists with world class archival color, priced cost effectively to ensure their success.
